Acknowledgements: In the order verification module, an action by the pharmacist that provides reasons for accepting the warnings during the verification process. The pharmacist will provide a valid reason for accepting these warnings.

Adjudicate: To request payment from a Third Party Insurance provider for medications delivered and services provided to a patient from the pharmacy.

Administrator: The super user of the system which has full access to the system including the adding/modifying/deleting of users.

Application Programming Interface (API): A set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications.

AutoMed: Centralized Automation Dispensing Machine housed in pharmacy.

Code Access Security (CAS):Mechanism which helps limit the access which code has to protect resources and outcomes. This helps define permissions and permission sets while enabling administrators to configure security settings by an association of permissions.

Check Order: Functional module that allows Pharmacist to review orders that have been dispensed and flags them for delivery.

CII: A controlled substance scheduled medication with the highest level of restrictions

ConnectMate: An interface engine which exchanges, translates and routes messages between and within systems on a real-time basis.

Cycle Fill: The dispensing of medications for a patient's orders for a 24 hours period (i.e. one day). Cycle Fills may cover multiple days when dispensed automated by dispensing machines or manually by technicians and pharmacist.

Compound: A multi-item ingredient.

Delivery: The module which is used by drivers to enter barcodes for totes that are delivered to facilities.

Dispense Quantity: the quantity to dispense and passed to AutoMed, and, the quantity to be billed. See specification for further details.

Driver: This user who has the responsibility of scanning totes prior to delivery.

E-Box: A storage unit containing stocked medications available for dispensing and administration to patients, yet they are not specifically assigned to those medications. These medications are considered stock of the central pharmacy, but are housed at the facility.

Export: Sending of data from one program to another

Facility: Location identification for patient/facility

Frequency: A schedule indicating the times of administration for the medication order.

HIPAA requirements: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 which brings significant change to the legal and regulatory environments that govern the provision of health benefits, the delivery and payment of healthcare services, and the security and confidentiality of individually identifiable protected health information.

LOA - Leave of Absence: When a patient leaves a facility for a temporary pre-determined number of days.

Lock Number: The number of the lock which was used to physically lock the tote.

Manifest: A document identifying the medications shipped in a tote by the pharmacy to a facility.

Medication Order (Med Order, Order): An entity that represents a prescription that has been issued for a patient for a drug, treatment, etc for duration of time.

Medication Order Item (Order Item): An individual dispensed quantity of the medication order.

Medication Type: Identification of medication type such as medication, PRN, treatment, patches, etc.

MediSpan: database which provides drug information and allergies to Carolina.

MediMedia: Drug formulary base for Carolina.

MedSelect: Decentralized Dispensing Machine housed at the facility.

MPSRX: A long-term care solution which utilizes wireless technology, Internet infrastructure, proprietary software and robotic prescription fulfillment for order entry and medication administration.

National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP): A standard for the transfer of data to and from the pharmacy services sector of the healthcare industry.

NDCH: Software component from NDC that helps facility billing.

Order Verification: This module allows Pharmacist to review pending orders before releasing them for dispense.

Pharmacist: The user who is responsible for verifying orders before dispensing and checking the order after dispensing.

PRN: Pro-re-nata:a prescription to be given as needed (i.e. not at a specific interval of time)

Protected Health Information (PHI): Is any information that can used to identify an individual in the course of providing a health care service.

Receive Order: A module of MPSRX in which the care giver scans the tote barcode id and enters the lock id to indicate that the items that have been 'toted' have been received by the respective facility.

Refill Quantity: the prescription script quantity. See specification for further details.

Reject (Adjudication): When adjudication (see above) fails and is returned to the system as not accepted.

Resubmit (Adjudication): To resend adjudication (see above) for claim or payment after the previously submission has failed and is returned to the system or has not been accepted.

RX: Latin for recipe or pharmacy

Station: A nursing station or location where medications can be delivered.

Technician: The user who has access to the patient order entry and order profile screens.

Tote: Container in which pharmacy orders are placed for delivery

Toted: Medications that have been pharmacist checked, placed in a tote and ready to be picked up by the driver for delivery to the facility/patient.

Wing: An identification of a collection of patient bed locations in a facility.
